FLY by Molly McLain **BLOG TOUR**

Fly BannerFly (1) Goodreads

77003-synopsis
Meet Colton Wade, FMX rider...
I’m just a small town guy who caught a lucky break. Now I’m living the dream, on the brink of high-flying super-stardom. But something’s missing.
That something is Taylor.
She’s my best friend. The one who makes me want to push harder and higher. The one I fall back on when shit gets tough. The one I’d give it all up for.
I’d do anything to protect her. To make her dreams come true too.
But a single night changes everything.
And now the one she needs protection from...is me.
Fly Teaser 2

Excerpt
“Why?” she murmurs, her voice raw.
“Why what, gorgeous?”
“Why do you put up with me?”
I almost ask if she’s serious, but the way she’s clinging to me begs for an answer. So I give it to her as honestly as I know how. “Because you’re my best friend and I love you. Because you bend over backwards for me every chance you get and, whenever I’ve got shit going on, you’re the one who talks me off the ledge. You’ve supported me in every way imaginable and trying to be that person for you is the only way I know how to say thanks.” I kiss her temple and she exhales a shaky breath. “You want me to go on? I’ve got a thousand more reasons if you want to hear them.”
She looks up at me, tears clinging to her eyelashes. “I’m sorry.”
“You don’t need to apologize.”
“You’re nothing like him.”
Thank God. “I’m glad to hear that, because I’d off myself if I were.”
She smiles. “Don’t do that. Please.”
“And please don’t give up because of him. You have too much life to live.”
Using her sleeve, she dries her face. “ God, I’m sad. You’re here to…do whatever it is you have to do and I’m leaving boogers on your shirt.”
I glance down at the wet spots and lift a shoulder. “They’ll dry.”
She laugh-snorts and goes to the mirror, grimacing at her reflection. “Oh, God.”
“Not gonna lie, Tee—I’m pretty sure your face wasn’t this puffy when you had that allergic reaction to kiwi back in junior high. You’re still pretty though. Always will be.”
“Shut up,” she groans and tries to step around me to leave the room.
“Where you going?”
“Back to bed.”
“Oh, no, you’re not. Get in the shower. I’m taking you out.”
She gives me her best ghetto mama head roll. “Are you telling me what to do again?”
I smirk and weigh my options: piss her off or piss her off. “Yeah. I am.”
“I need to ice my eyes, not be seen in public.”
“We’ll reevaluate after a shower. Come on.” I reach for the hem of her sweatshirt and she slaps my hand away.
“The snot on your shirt does not give you license to try and undress me.”
Shame about that. “No?”
“Absolutely no. And it doesn’t give you permission to make plans for me either. I’m already set on sharing a pint of gelato with Forest Gump and Dumb and Dumber.”
“I would really like it ah-lah if you’d reconsider.” I try to bribe her with a grin.
“No.” She’s not buying my joke. In fact, she sticks her hands on her hips and raises an eyebrow. A challenge?
How brave of her. “You sure about that?”
“Very.” Her chin lifts and I lunge forward, grip the bottom of the sweatshirt with both hands, and yank it over her head. Her shriek and panicked attempt to right her tank top keep her distracted from my subsequent attack on her sweats. I tug them down, then hike her wriggling, protesting body over my shoulder so I can pull them off her feet.
When I put her down, she’s breathing hard and standing before me, covered in head to toe pink. Cheeks, tank top, panties, and sparkly polish on the tips of her pretty toes.
She glances down at her nearly naked body and then up at me, her mouth agape. “You bastard.”
I toss the sweats over my shoulder with a wink. “I’ll take these back, seeing as they’re mine.”
“I hate you.”
“Not as much as you’ll hate me if I leave you alone tonight. Now humor me and hop in the shower. We’ll come up with something more interesting to do than watch movies you’ve seen fifty times.”
I can see the wheels turning in her head as a slow grin slides across those lips I want to kiss so badly. “More interesting, huh? How about this?” Faster than I can blink, she whips off her tank top.
“Jesus Christ!” I’m the one who shrieks this time, but damn if I can take my eyes of her tits. Full and creamy, tipped with tight, coral nipples. Fuck. Me. Running.
“Why are you still standing there, Col?” she asks, a taunting lilt in her tone. She’s reclaimed the upper hand and, because I’m a man and she’s friggin’ gorgeous, there’s not a damn thing I can do about it.
I try to speak, but nothing comes out. My perverted fucking head is too busy taking inventory. A narrow ribcage, a flat, sexy belly, and a tiny, studded hoop winking at me from her navel. Sweet mother of God.
“Should I take these off, too, then?” She hooks her thumbs through the lace at her hips and starts to shimmy.
“No!” I throw out a hand and my cock throbs in protest. “No. Just…” She’s not ready for this, man. She’s just reacting. “I’m gonna go.”
“Good idea.” Those pretty breasts jiggle as she nods and I swallow the saliva pooling on my tongue.
Yep, there’s a special spot in hell for pigs like me, I’m sure of it.
“Col?”
“Yeah.” I brace my hand on the doorframe, as I turn away.
“Pick me up in an hour.”
Well, shit.

Our secrets define us.

She’s infuriating. Cocky, smart-mouthed, and dazzlingly beautiful, Zoe Sanders has consumed my thoughts since the night we met. I want her. Not just her body, but her mind. I want to know all the thoughts spinning behind those bright, guarded eyes. Her secrets are many and her trust is scarce. But I’ll do everything I can to tumble her walls because I don’t just want her lust. I want her love. I’m playing for keeps, and she’ll soon learn that I never lose.

I’ve run far to escape my past. Eight years and almost two thousand miles lie between me and the horror that consumes me. My life is a series of superficial relationships and closed doors designed to keep me safe. I will never let myself become the person I was. That girl is dead, and in her place is a woman who guards her inner self fiercely. I’m not going to let anyone breach those hard earned barriers. Not even him.

But when those secrets come home to roost, I have to decide what I’m willing to risk for my happily ever after. When the evil I left behind finds me, I have to choose. Will I succumb to the girl I was and crumble under the pressure? Or can I break the cycle and finally be free to fly?

I stood and closed my eyes as I stretched my hands over my head, followed by the soft, satisfying crackle as my spine readjusted. Some of the tension melted away, and I sighed as I opened my eyes. Only to jump in surprise and stumble back into my chair as I took in the sight of Logan Clarke leaning nonchalantly in my doorway.

“Holy shit!” I swore, fluttering my hand in his direction. “You’re like a sneaky fucking ninja. What the hell?”

He grinned “I see you’re going to take my comment about cursing sailors literally. Good to know.”

I grimaced. “It isn’t a regular occurrence in the office. You seem to be special.” I leaned one hip against my desk.

We stared at each other silently before Logan broke the tension with another smile.

“I was actually coming here for a reason other than scaring ten years off your life,” he said with a chuckle. “I made some zoning calls this morning for the land we’re building on and figured I’d tell you the news over lunch. Care to join me?”

I was about to refuse. No way was I spending more time than necessary with him. Then my stomach rumbled. Loudly. Damn.

“Yeah, I could use some food,” I said grudgingly, seeing from the humorous glint in his eye that he knew I’d been about to refuse before my stomach’s gauche betrayal. I scooped up my briefcase, which held my wallet, and motioned for him to precede me out to the elevator bank.

My coworkers eyed us curiously as we waited for the elevator doors to open, but I staunchly ignored them and Logan, choosing instead to absently stare at the lit numbers. 3…4…5….

“So, what sounds good for lunch?”

I flinched and turned to look at Logan just as the elevator doors slid open. His hand came over to lightly press against the small of my back to gently guide me into the box before the doors closed us off from the rest of the world.

I could feel the heat seeping through my shirt from where Logan’s hand rested, and a tingling warmth spread through my body, igniting a flame deep inside. I felt the need to wet suddenly dry lips, and I flashed back to that night five months ago. The feel of his mouth on my skin, large hands holding me firmly in place, hard –

“Do you have any preference?”

I sucked in a startled breath and jerked away from him. As I clenched my fists, I tried to steady my breathing. What the hell was wrong with me? I hadn’t been this affected by a guy since I was seventeen, and that ended in… No. Not going there. I shied away from the memory, and physically backed away from Logan as well, as if that could lessen his impact on me.

“Are you okay?” The question was innocent, but the smolder in his eyes was anything but. He’d noticed my reaction to him. Of course he had. I nodded and blew out a sigh.

“Yep. Just tired. I’ve been working all morning to get these distributors lined up. and my caffeine intake has suffered for it.” I avoided his gaze as the elevator settled and opened. Then I stepped out into the well-lit lobby and made for the exit. “How do gyros sound?” I tossed over my shoulder. “I know a great little shop around the corner that has the best tzatziki sauce this side of the Atlantic.”

“Perfect,” Logan replied. He caught up to me and settled in for a stroll with his hands tucked neatly in his pockets.

The walk over was silent, filled with tension. I could feel my shoulders tightening with every step and wondered once more how I was going to manage this. I couldn’t even be within ten feet of the man before my libido went through the roof. How was I going to get through however many months of close work it was going to take to finalize all of the choices and start on breaking ground? After that, we’d mostly speak through the contractor, but until then…

It was official. I was going to go insane. Jason hadn’t managed it those years ago, but this was going to push me over the edge.  Logan Clarke was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Wonderful.
